I get by with a little help from my friends

So I've finally decided to stop smoking. For good this time too. The smelly clothes, land food and insane cost of a pack of smokes have all forced my hand in this matter. But mostly I think it's Zuma's fault. Anyway, the short version is that U've decided to quit, but this time I'm going to do it a little differently.

I've asked all my smoker friends who I know have tried to quite before to pitch in and quit with me. No one can think of a reason not to, and I know they've all tried it before, so for the most part, they're all on board. I've set the official quitting day at 01 October. Why? I hear you ask. Well, two reasons really. Firstly, if there's an official start date for this campaign, everyone know exactly when to get serious from, to prepare themselves mentally and to do whatever else they need to.

The second reason is lack of faith. While I have every faith that my friends and I will do our best to try and quit, I'm not going to be foolish enough to leave this solely to will power, so I'll be din my homework on which Meds are out there to help us along on our quest to quit.
I'll be posting the results of my research up on FaceBook to, so you can keep an eye on what I find.

So, I've got 10 days left as a smoker, and I must admit - I'm pretty excited at the thought of going clean. I'll keep you posted and let you know how things go.

Hey Lester, good for you dude.

I've been off the smokes for just over 2 months now (cold turkey). I read the Alan Carr book and it worked for me. I have a few friends who gave it a bash after reading the book and it didn't work - so it's not a guaranteed winner!

My mother and a good mate went on Zyban and they've both been smoke-free for about 2 years now. But both have said that they didn't enjoy how the Zyban made them feel.

Good luck mate, however you get there I hope it works out.

Thanks for the positive motivation Grant. I think one of the girls in the group has the book and is going to give it a shot. I'll a follow up post here to let you know if it works ;)

Good luck man, more power to you! I wish I could have the guts :)

Thanks for the good wished Chris - I'll admit that I'm nervous as hell. Making the decision to put this out for the world to see is supposed to be an additional motivator to keep me on the straight and narrow, but eish - it just makes it that much more daunting...
